The Doll Maker is a new adventure game, currently in development by Remanence Studio.

You play as Emo, a treasure hunter who responds to a mysterious beacon emanating from a vast, now uninhabited land. Your mission is to uncover the source of the beacon and unravel the dark secrets it conceals.

This text and graphical adventure immerses players in a strange and unsettling world, featuring original graphics and music. Navigate through a realm filled with enigmatic machines, challenging puzzles, and unexpected twists across numerous locations waiting to be explored.

This game pays homage to the genre of interactive graphical text adventures, reminiscent of classics like Guild of Thieves and The Pawn.

The Doll Maker is slated for release in the fall of 2025 for the Amiga platform.


Soundtrack extravaganza

The Doll Maker will feature an exciting procedural soundtrack that not only changes with the gameplay but is also unique every time you play. The soundtrack engine is a one-of-a-kind, real-time mixer that combines audio stems in a way that is always musical and constantly evolving.

The soundtrack is composed specifically for the game by award-winning composer Jesper Andersen of The JohnDoe Search—a band known for blending genres like lo-fi, alt-rock, techno, and industrial.

The soundtrack will also be available on streaming services such as Spotify, iTunes, and Tidal.

Use of AI

AI has been used in creation of the graphics for The Doll Maker

If you for some reason, absolutely recent the use of generative AI, this game is not for you. Luckily, there are a ton of great games out there, from other small development studios and I'm sure you'll find something thats just what you are looking for.

However, if you're even a little curious, I encourage you to download our playable demo and see what the fuss is all about. 🙂

The use of generative AI in this game might not be what you expect. Since the game draws heavily on real locations and buildings from my hometown, AI has been used in a very specific and creative way.

The buildings were first modeled in a CAD program (Shade3D—a descendant of the classic Amiga 3D modeller/render, Imagine), and placed in a virtual space. Then, generative AI was used to build the surroundings and finalize the placement of those buildings into The Doll Maker's world.


System requirements

Minimum requirements

* OCS, 1 mb of chip

* 5 mb of harddrive

* Kickstart 1.3

Alternatively, the sound engine can be omitted which should allow the Doll Maker to run on a standard 512 kb chip OCS. 

We test on an unexpanded Amiga 600 with Kickstart 3.1

Playable demo

An early sneak peek demo is now available for download. This version includes a few locations and puzzles. While there are still bugs and improvements to be made, it aims to provide a glimpse into the game’s atmosphere and eerie ambiance

The music and graphics create a lot of atmosphere in the game, I'm waiting for the full version so we can play more. I added it to my new "New Amiga Games for May 2025" video along with other recently released games. I hope you enjoy the video.

Very nice text adventure with atmospheric graphics and sound. Thanks to the built-in help, it's also suitable for beginners. Thanks for clarifying the use and scope of generative AI, appreciate it!

I love the idea and sound of the dynamic soundtrack, do you plan to change/evolve the music as the game changes/progresses? Reminded me of iMuse that was awesome, but unfortunately somehow forgotten when streaming prerecorded music became a norm.

Thank you VW - I appreciate the feedback. The game currently has three different soundtracks (well 4, but one is very avantgarde - not sure many would call it music) for different parts of the game (the demo only has one).
Each soundtrack is made up of several "stems" that the soundengine can choose from according to intensity. Specific locations in the game can also control the intensity. It's something I will experiment more with as I build out the game.
I would also love to add more soundtracks as I find that changing the music when moving to different areas of the game, is a great way to create variance and dynamics in the game. But it's a balance of time, and disk space :-)

I wasn't aware of iMUSE - but after looking it up on wikipedia I does seem to have some of the same basic ideas as mine :-)

As anticipated in our previous post we have converted the game to Whdload format with specific slave, custom splash screen, hybrid icon (OldIcon+NewIcon+ColorIcon) compatible with all AmigaOS, and readme file (look at attached pictures below). 

We would like to share it with you so that, if you wish, you can include it as an additional version for the benefit of the Amiga community and,  as written previously, we remain available also for a possible translation of the game from English to Italian, and obviously also of the translated title we would make a Whdload version.

Our Amiga Vault Team Is specialized in whdload conversion of any Amiga game and will convert your game for sure too, showing you the result, and if you want you can share it  here as a download option, as many other Amiga game developers have decided to do having been fully satisfied with our work (Lately we have converted Wardner and Wings Of Fear, and the developers have released our whdload version on their official game page on itch.io as public download)
